Trained within EU/EES

You need a license to work in most of the professions within the Swedish healthcare system.

To work within Swedish healthcare, you must have a good knowledge of the Swedish language. Equivalent knowledge in Danish or Norwegian is also accepted. To receive an employment in Sweden's healthcare system you will need to reach a level of C1- Effective operational proficiency or advanced.

Trained outside EU/EES

You apply for Swedish license through the National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen), the authority that sets the requirements for Swedish licensure. The National Board of Health and Welfare reviews your foreign education and informs you of the steps you need to take to proceed in the licensure process.

Proficiency test

To obtain a Swedish license, you must complete a proficiency test. The test includes both theoretical and practical components.

Clinical Training

During your clinical training period you demonstrate your practical knowledge and skills and your suitability for the profession. At the same time, you will see how the Swedish healthcare system works. You can begin the clinical training when you have passed the entire proficiency test.

Citizens of Non-EU/EEA Countries
